Rethinking a Key Business Tool for the Forestry Sector

For more than a decade, ForstBAR has served as a central reference system for cost accounting and analysis across the Swiss forestry sector. Its data supports not only businesses and institutions, but also federal-level analysis and decision-making — giving the system strategic importance for the sector and beyond.

As part of the ForstBAR 5.0 modernisation project, I am supporting the business analysis and the transition towards a new browser-based application. My focus is on understanding existing processes and structures, bringing together different user and stakeholder needs, and translating this complexity into clear requirements and a structured basis for further development.

For me, this project is a great example of what digital transformation often means in practice: not simply replacing an existing tool with new technology, but understanding what works, what needs to change, and how established systems can be developed for the future.

Looking forward to seeing ForstBAR 5.0 take shape.
